In every time, there have been desires for 'ideal space' in civilization. Human beings long for better life in better space and this has often concluded in new paradigms in the history of architecture, whether the initial thesis has been embodied in reality or not. This nostalgia for 'Utopian' (meaning, "exists nowhere") space reflects many aspects in social, technological, and ideological sides of our culture in each time and shows us how these characters has been applied in our everyday design of living spaces. It is interesting that the time we live in is often introduced as the time of 'Ubiquitous' (meaning, "exists everywhere"). Today's mankind wants to overcome physical spacial boundaries using digital technology, and it reminds and takes us back to the 'Archigram' age, when a handful of architects tried out their ideal spaces in compact or 'all-in-one' styles, in the pursuit of evolution of spacial design in architecture in the 1960s.It seems true that digital technology is in the heat of 'Ubiquitous revolution' and will make formidable changes in the scope of our everyday life. And it is undeniable that this new paradigm has already begun to affect many areas not only in science and technology but also in architectural spaces. Those changes in architecture has included utopian perspectives, therefore this dissertation discusses the history and tradition of 'utopian movements' in architecture and how this tradition has been developed and will influence our space in terms of ubiquitous computing. This dissertation is going to view the concept and the tradition of utopian perspectives in the architectural history, and moreover, it will concentrate on characters of 'Archigram' project as an alternative model for the creation of ideal space in the time. Then, it will look at 'ubiquitous revolution' as a today's need for 'utopian space' and discuss to what extent they are related and how Archigram can be brought into the development of architectural models to fulfill the needs in the age of ubiquitous technology. Therefore it will study the ways in which utopian movements have appeared in architecture and how those movements have affected architectural spaces. It will be discussed in terms of social, technological and ideological background in each time and illustrates how it is interrelated in real designs. As a result of this comparative study of Archigram and ubiquitous computing based on the utopian perspectives, the interrelationship between the time and the utopian movement in architecture is studied as followed:1. Each time creates the need for new designs in living spaces in terms of the social values and the technological development, and the need is reflected in the movements.2. Utopian perspectives illustrates the cultural changes and the spirit of the society.3. The architects who lead utopian movements not only try to fulfill the need of the time but also suggest future trend in the positive and constructive embodiment of the need.4. Archigram's limit, that it failed to consider the technological matters and was too ahead of its time, can be reviewed in the ubiquitous space, where the ideology and the technology are leading the movement in architecture 목차
