Description

Understand the Error 5100 on your Pixma or Maxify printer.
 

Solution

There are several reasons for Error 5100 to appear, including a paper jam, an improperly seated ink tank, and more.
 

• Encoder (Timing) Strip on the printer needs cleaning.
  • Manual cleaning can be done on some models. Check the FAQ section under your model for an article on how to clean the encoder (timing) strip if possible.
• Packing material was left inside the printer
  • On first time setups, ensure any packing material inside the printer has been removed
• An ink cartridge isn't seated properly
  • Remove the ink cartridges and reseat them
• Paper is jammed or there is an object inside the printer.
  • Inspect the printer to confirm there is no remaining paper from a paper jam and that there are no foreign objects inside your machine
• The printer needs to be reset.
  • Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the data cable from the printer (not applicable to Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth® or Infrared).
  • Unplug the printer power cord for approximately 10 minutes, and then plug it back in.
    • If the power cord is plugged in to a surge protector, it may be necessary (for testing purposes) to plug the cord directly into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the data cable (not applicable to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Infrared).
  • ​Press Power to turn the printer back on, then trying printing again.
  • If the printer still doesn't work correctly, and the carriage is accessible, remove and replace the ink. Please repeat the steps above.

If the steps provided do not resolve this concern, it suggests that your printer requires servicing to resolve this problem.
