말이 씨가 된다면서 말의 주력(呪力)을 믿는 언령(言靈)사상은 기복적 관점에서 이름짓기의 인식적 기반을 형성하고 있다. 현대 한국사회에서 이름은 단순히 언어현상으로만 그치는 것이 아니라 현세 기복을 위한 수단으로도 인식되는 경우가 많다. 오늘날 한국사회에서 나름 활용되고 있는 이름짓기 방법은 크게 9가지이며, 그중에서도 작명가들이 많이 활용하고 있는 것은 수리 성명학과 수리오행 성명학, 발음오행 성명학이다. 특히 한글 자음의 소리오행을 요건으로 하는 발음오행 성명학이 가장 널리 활용되고 있는 추세이다. 그러나 현행 발음오행 성명학은 후음(喉音)과 순음(脣音)의 오행 배속 착종, 중성모음(中聲母音)과 종성자음(終聲子音) 오행의 적용 배제라는 중요한 문제점을 갖고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 훈민정음 제자원리에 함축된 역학(易學)사상으로서 음양오행론․삼재론(三才論)과의 연관성 속에서 발음오행 성명학의 요건상 문제점과 그 해결책을 중점적으로 모색하였다.

Eonryeong(the idea of linguistic spirit, 言靈) idea that believes in the magical power (呪力) of language which quotes be careful what you ask for forms cognitive base of naming from the viewpoint of praying for good fortune. In modern Korean society, name is recognized not merely a language phenomenon but as a means of praying for good fortune in this world. Today in Korean society, naming methods are largely nine ways which are utilized in their own way, among them, namers mostly utilize mathematical naming theory, mathematical five elements naming theory, and pronunciation five elements naming theory. Particularly, pronunciation five elements naming theory, based on sound five elements of Hangul consonants is inclined to most widely utilized. However, current pronunciation five elements naming theory has serious problems such as five elements assignment entangling of guttural consonant and labial, and exclusion from application of five elements of neutral vowel and final consaonant. Therefore, this research concentrated on requirement problem of pronunciation five elements naming theory and the solution in the association of the theory of yin-yang and five elements․the theory of three components of the universe as the I Ching idea implied in the principle of creating the characters of Hunminjeongeum.
